really good question, operating on the assumption that aboriginal economic development is a good thing, current state of capitalism is not so good.

what kind of form of capitalism will emerge as system recovers?  will that be a good form for first nations.

indigenous view and world view not incompatible.

not much of an economist, why cant we work on sustainable?  what drives growth?  why does it need to be more more more.

thunder bay has so many resources, farmers market amazes me showing the opportunities for organics.

100 mile diet thing.

value added products.

recycling.

why cant we recycle from the north?

capitalism is essential.  disproved laissez faire capitalism.

we want decent regulations.

conservative government in ontario deregulated a lot of things.  water supply.

we have to specialize.  who wants to be a clothing manufacture in canada when you can buy it cheaper from china.  lumber.

service and goods traded all over.  the system of moving goods and capital will change.

where does the money come from?  deficits, people are maxed out.

crisis capitalism.

create instability, so economies fail.  IMF lend, but come with conditions.

Canada will not go to the IMF.  What about first nations.

if you are poor and impoverished, you probably dont care.

4 ladders of economic development.

first nations facing different imperatives.

no one has come up with a global answer to hunger.

regulatory issues that dont apply in the north.

we want good regulation, not regulation for the sake of regulation.

KI situation.  facing mining development without meaningful consultation.  stood up to mines.

we want a system where the province and country do not delegate everything.  freedom needed to foster creativity.

theories on new ways of governance.  movement from bottom up, empower people to make their own economic decisions.  government should be stewardship of economy.

systems that are flexible.

never about deregulation. evolution of capitalism has always about regulation.

government should be making high level policy.

nobody ever needed a hulahoop.

what is wrong with capitalism?

economies based on manufactured product.  creative economy not driven my resource that is limited, based on infinite resource (ideas) more efficient to do things.  back to previous forms of government.

aboriginal economic future, what does it look like?  how do communities engage in that system?

people do not get interested in change until absolute disaster hits.

nothing is like democracy, like a democracy.  the market is as democratic as it gets.

capitalism is adapting.

medicine wheel, everything is connected, people need to recognize their impacts on the economy... need to look at perfect harmony with nature.

nature doesn't need people... people need nature.

what are the real needs of people.  emotional, spiritual, physical, needs
