What is Government's Role in Venture Capital?

New funding announcements from the Ontario Government recently announced

- How can a Y Combinator model be created here in Ontario on a far broader and distributed scale?

- How to ensure government doesn't kill any program or entrepreneurial venture it may get involved in?

- Need a unique value proposition and focus on that - Greentech/ICT combination

- Are just creating jobs in other jurisdictions?  Keep jobs in local community or Ontario.

- How to get good news out to potential entrepreneurs - the reality is better than what people know.

- How to engage properly in active, modern tools - government very traditional.  This conference is scary and exciting at the same time.  Instant news and criticism.

- How do we engage to get the good story that celebrates all the good things happening

- How to better get the information on programs, announcements and ideas out to the public?  The traditional media is failing.

 - Need to paint a bigger vision - get people excited and how we can get there.

- How do we get the word out.  The world is changing.  How to speak to the upcoming generations.

- A need to give the whole picture - what does the province look like in 2020?  How can we paint a picture and get everyone working towards a common vision/goals?

- Allow/encourage/challenge everyone to get involved and participate.

- Bypass the media that at times is the barrier - in particular newspapers, etc.  MaRS - librarian to help get people to the information and the information to the people.

- Does private enterprise have to change?  How to make it easier to figure out?  How to link everything together in an easy manner when it is so complex and diverse?

- How can government change to encourage things.  Ontario government - proud to steal good ideas from around the world!  Taking great ideas from New Zealand, California, Europe, etc.  

- How to communicate the larger plan and vision of government to the common folk and business 

- More government funding for OCE, MaRS, Accelerator Center - incubators, etc.  Government needs to fund even more successes

- Need a federal/provincial meeting on innovation

- Stealing ideas from other countries - best practices - trying to bring them here and now others coming to Ontario to take ideas from us.

- Really scary for government and politicans to embrace Web 2.0 media.  Obama has created a new model though. San Franciscoan Magazine - great article on it.
